Spring 2025 Audition Information

WELCOME and thanks for your interest in joining our choral family!
Please read all of the information below.

Our Ensembles

We have two choirs at Macalester:

The CHORALE is our large ensemble. They rehearse twice weekly: Tues 4:45pm-6:15pm and Thurs 6:30pm-8:00pm.

The CONCERT CHOIR is our smaller and more selective ensemble. They rehearse three times weekly: Mon/Wed/Thurs 4:45pm-6:15pm. The Concert Choir is not adding new members this winter. Auditions for the Concert Choir will re-open in the fall of 2025.

Vocal Placement Auditions

Your appointment will take about 15 minutes, and you don't need to prepare anything in advance. You'll meet me (Prof. McGaghie), we'll talk about your musical experience and interests, and briefly sing the following:

Various patterns and scales to confirm your comfortable range
Simple melodic patterns that I'll play and you sing back
"Happy Birthday" or a melody of your choosing
Some short, simple excerpts that we will work on together

Auditions will be held in Prof. McGaghie's office, Music 215.

Please note: admittance to the Concert Choir requires an additional callback audition (to be scheduled later), offered only by invitation after this first round of auditions is complete.

Please choose a day and time (below) and fill out the requested information. Time slots are available on Monday December 9 and Wednesday December 11. You will be able to reschedule your appointment if needed.
